Summer Fun

Wednesday Owen and I went over to the local variety store and got him some water shoes and a toddler size pool for only $10. (I love when I get a good deal so I have to share). Owen hated it at first which is funny because he loves the bath. Apparently the water was too cold for him. I didn't realize that I should let the water sit out for a while in the sun to warm up. When I was just a kid we just filled up the pool and got right in. Of course, I was a lot older than Owen (probably 5 or so).

After the water warmed up a bit he started to play. Next time (after I let it sit out for a while) I bet he'll just love it.

Decorating Owen's Room

I had fun the other day decorating Owen's room more. I got these wallpaper cutouts in the shape of a pine tree and bear. They had adhesive already on them I just had to wet them and stick them up. I used a laser level to help me. So you are probably wondering why bears and pine trees. Before Owen was born we bought a crib set called Casey's Cabin. It's red, khaki, and plaid. It would work for a farm, cowboy, or cabin theme. We decided to do a cabin theme since we love the mountains and outdoorsy decor. Before now I really haven't decorated his room too much like a cabin. I do have some cute teddy bears in there and a lamp but that's about it. Now I need to get a plush bear skin rug at the right price.

Weight Loss Update

I weighted myself at work Thursday. I have lost 10 pounds using Weight Watcher points. I haven't been keeping track of my points since I got sick but I now about know what points I'm eating. Probably a good portion of that 10 pounds is water weight but I have noticed my pants fit better. Just 10 more pounds to go. I realize this will be harder to lose. I have been taking Owen for walks every morning and then I mow the back yard once a week. Hopefully these little additions to my activity level will help a lot. I'm not huffing and puffing as bad as when I first started.

Just Chillin'

Both my boys are napping, my house work is done (for now), and I'm all dressed so I decided it'd be OK to blog a bit. In health news...Owen is well again and if I could just get this tickle out of my throat I'd be OK too. Barry on the other hand is on some heavy duty antibiotics, cough syrup, and steroid for a severe bronchial infection. All four tubes in his lungs are inflamed. He is so stubborn about taking off work even when he's coughing up a lung. Last night after coming home from the doctor (took an entire army to convince him to go) he decided to mow the front yard. Crazy man.

I've Got It Too!

I guess we must be a family who shares really well. Despite washing my hands religiously, I got the crud from Owen. Thankfully it hasn't affected me the same but I do have the fever and the really, really sore throat. Barry stayed home to tend to Owen and me. Owen is doing a lot better. The rash is fading from his arms and hopefully that means in the next couple days it will fade completely from everywhere including his mouth and throat. He is happier today and not as fussy. We haven't had to use his throat numbing medicine lately. It's just good to have our happy little Owen back again. Now I just need to get better too.

This and That

I need a vacation after this week. It all started with Owen getting a fever late Wednesday afternoon. Beside the fever, he was inconsolable and holding his ears so I took him into the doctor. No ear infection and his throat is swollen a bit but it's not strep. The next morning he has a rash from head to toe so I take in again. Turns out the rash is also down his throat, on the top of his mouth, and tongue but they don't know what virus is causing it. So we have some medicine to numb his month and throat but he still is pretty miserable most of the time. We haven't a good night sleep since. We've also alternating Motrin and Tylenol for keep down his stubborn fever and to help with the throat and mouth pain. He's getting a little better each day but slowly. It's a real struggle to get him to eat and drink.

Anyway, we watched the movie "The Ultimate Gift" (PG) last night. It was a really good show and had a good message. It was about a spoiled, rich guy whose rich grandfather dies and his inheritance is dependant upon him completing a series of tasks that are meant to make him change for the better. It's so nice to watch a show without worrying they will drop a swear word or have some questionable scene.

Other than that I'm being working on losing some weight using the Weight Watchers point system. I want to lose 15 or so pounds so I can be at a healthy BMI (Body Mass Index). So far I've done really well with keeping with the diet. You can basically eat what you want as long as you keep under your daily point allowance. You have to watch your portions and avoid really fatty foods like fried foods. I keep track of my points using a little spreadsheet I made up. I haven't had the chance to weigh myself since I started. The scale I use is at work and with Owen sick this week I didn't go in.

Come to a Complete Stop

I've mentioned before that one of my VERY bad habits is California stopping. I tend to pause, look both ways, and quickly turn. Well, today I'm not sure if I even paused (I must have been in la-la land). I just saw that nothing was there and turned right. Before I know it I'm being pulled over by a Rigby City cop for failing to stop. Thankfully I didn't get cited and got a strict warning instead to always come to a complete stop at all stop signs or else next time I will be cited.

The kicker is that Barry has warned me before about my California stopping and even at the particular stop sign. Plus I had Owen with me so I really feel lousy. I'm a changed woman now. I'm going to make sure to pay attention and stop completely.

Anyway, Owen had a new tooth cut through. He is finally back to being happy until the next tooth decides to cut through. It's the right front tooth on the top.

Barry's 33rd birthday was yesterday and we had a party for him with friends and family. We had a German chocolate cake with Betty Crocker Whipped Butter Cream frosting and cookie dough ice cream. It turned out really good (every one said it was delicious). I made him a pancake breakfast earlier and he nearly passed out in shock. I'm not a morning person at all so we rarely have a hot breakfast. I hope he had a really good birthday. He's had to put up me being cranky lately (gotta love being a woman) so I hope this makes up for it.

A Little Dry Humor

I got this forward from a friend. It's not laugh out loud funny but I got a good chuckle out of it.

Several men are in the locker room at the health club.A cell phone on a bench rings, and a man engages the hands free speaker-function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen.....

MAN: "Hello"
WOMAN:"Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"
MAN: "Yes"
WOMAN: "I am at the mall now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $1,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"
MAN: "Sure... Go ahead if you like it that much."
WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2008 models. I saw one I really like."
MAN: "How much?"
WOMAN:"$90,000"
MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."
WOMAN:"Great! Oh, and one more thing...the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $950,000"
MAN: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer of $900,000. They will probably take it. If not, we can go the extra 50 thousand."
WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you so much!!"
MAN: "Bye! I love you, too."

The man hangs up.The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths agape.....He smiles and asks:"Anyone know who this phone belongs to??"

Anniversary Weekend Getaway

We had a blast this weekend in Salt Lake City. We took Owen with us since Barry's sister lives in right in Salt Lake and she was willing to watch him for a couple hours. Owen really enjoyed spending time with Noah, Eloise, Aunt Mandy, and Uncle Nate. We left Idaho Friday morning. When we got to Salt Lake we dropped Owen off, and then went over to the Salt Lake Temple and went through a session. There were a ton of brides there. It was overcast but a perfect day for wedding pictures.

After the temple, we went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. It was simply delicious! If you ever get the chance to eat there we'd recommend the Steak Diane combos. I had mine with Shrimp Scampi and Barry had his with the Chicken Madeira. Both are just wonderful.

Saturday afternoon we saw the new Indiana Jones film. We both liked it but Barry thought the main story plot was stupid. Sorry aliens! He-he. Sunday Barry grilled the best lunch. We had rib eye steaks, grilled steak fries, grilled pineapple, and watermelon. Good job honey!

When we got to Idaho Falls we stopped by Barry's parents. I told him that they had something for us. It was really Owen & my gift to him for anniversary, birthday, and Father's Day. Our anniversary is May 30; his birthday is June 8; and Father's Day is the June 15. So instead of getting 3 different presents I lumped it all in one and got him a grill. His current grill has seen better days. The side working surfaces are falling off and it has bird do-do all over it from our Ririe days. This new one has 3 burners and then 1 side burner. He's picking it up after work so I hope it turns out to be a good grill. I did my research but you never know.
