Nurse Rebecca

Fortunately I have managed to avoid getting the crud that Owen and now Barry have (knocking on wood desk). I'm not so sure I'm lucky to have changed a bazillion diapers so far, cleaned up vomit, and forced a little boy to drink even one sip of Pedialyte. I am lucky not to be suffering from a fever and all the chills, sweats, and pains that go with it. Thankfully Barry is NOT suffering from vomiting or diarrhea.

I did enjoy snuggling with Owen for so long, too bad he had to be sick! He is closer to being completely well again. His fever ended early Friday morning and now he is playing and smiling again. If we could just stop the diarrhea and the occasional vomiting. We called the doctor and if he doesn't stop then we are to take him in on Monday. We've been doing the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast) with him. We were instructed to give him only a teaspoon of any of the above every 20 minutes. I think Owen's main problem is his stomach's reaction to having food again. For some reason he dry heaves which causes him to gag and then throw up.

11 months old

Owen is 11 months tomorrow. I am going to sound like a broken record but it doesn't seem possible. The closer his 1st birthday gets the more I doubt he'll walk before his first birthday. Not that it matters. He does a really good job at getting around now. He is a pro at crawling, pulling himself up, and walking along the furniture.

Today we played nurse to Owen. He threw up his breakfast and a bit later when we fed him some saltine crackers and pedialyte he threw up again. To top it all off, he had some massive diarrhea. We figure he must have stomach virus. He hasn't thrown up for hours so hopefully he is over the worst of it. He's felt a bit warm (he won't hold still to let us take his temperature from his armpit) so hopefully that goes away tonight too.

Here is a photo of Owen "helping" with the laundry. He's such a cute stinker!

Happy Easter!

We had a great Easter. Barry's sister came with her family from Salt Lake and we enjoyed spending time with them. Like Christmas, Owen didn't get what all the hoopla was about but he did enjoy sticking the plastic eggs in his mouth. We had a little Easter egg hunt at Barry's parents with all the cousins. Grandpa put some eggs out in the open for the little ones like Owen and hid some for the older cousins. We walked Owen to them and he easily just picked up a couple. We enjoyed the candy inside for him.

Yesterday Owen got his basket. It was filled with animal crackers, Gerber lil' Cheetos, and some cars. The cars are the kind that you can pull back and they go. Owen doesn't like the noise they make when they are pulled back so he just pushes them around. He also wore his new outfit to church. We went to church with Barry's parents and all the family. We had a wonderful dinner afterward.

We had a difficult time getting Owen to smile for pictures. This time he is definitely teething and so he didn't feel like smiling. His gums are swollen so we'll see in a little while which teeth decide to pop up. Hopefully the teething tablets will help some. He isn't interested in any teething toys so we've been a little lax with his binkie as that's the only thing he likes.

Family Update

Sorry I don't have any new pictures of Owen to post. Sunday he wore his first white shirt and tie. I wanted to take a picture that morning but he was cranky and he spilled on it before we got home that afternoon. Sundays are really hard on Owen. He likes his schedule and 11 AM church totally disrupts it. He usually naps from 9:30 - 11:30 AM and then eats at noon so you can imagine how unenjoyable church can be. I've wised up and started feeding him in the mother's lounge during the last part of Sunday School and Relief Society announcements. He actually makes it through Relief Society that way.

Anyway, hopefully the week after Easter I'll get him in his shirt and tie. I'll be posting some pictures from Easter coming up. He has the cutest Easter outfit!

Barry took his 3rd test in his Intro. to Biology class and passed! Biology, rather science, really isn't his forte, so he's been struggling in this class. I am so proud of how he's stuck it out and has tried his best!

Barry's been busy wiring the electrical, phone, etc in the basement. Luckily, my visiting teacher partner's husband is an electrian and he has come over and helped alot! Hopefully we can get the craft room (the smallest of them all) finished before he gets too busy but we'll see.

I'm just busy doing the usual. Working from home, taking care of Owen and the house. Wish there were more hours in the day and that we had unlimited energy. Anyway, I'll probably be posting again Monday, so watch out!

My Handy Work

I've caught Owen a couple times sucking (he has no teeth) on the front rail of his crib. I figured I better get something to protect all the rails before he gets teeth and then turns into a little beaver. Plus it makes the crib look not so plain. We had to take the bumper off when Owen started using it to pull himself up.

After some research, I found that the products out there were either too expensive, didn't work, or probably wouldn't work on our crib. The front rail of our crib is wide and the underside of the rail is arch-shaped. Thinking back to the problems we had attaching the bumper pad we bought, I decided to make my own crib rail protector.

It was super easy. I basically just made a thin-padded pillow with ties for each side of the crib. The ties are grosgrain ribbon and the padding is quilt batting. I used super glue on the ends of the grosgrain ribbon so I wouldn't have to sew the ends to prevent unraveling. I'm pretty proud of my handy work. It feels so good when your projects work out and don't turn into nightmares (mine usually do).

A Bunch of Sickies

I'm sick of being sick even though I've only been that bad since yesterday night. I'm the worst when it comes to being sick. I'm just down right pitiful and I admit it. Barry has been sick since last Friday but is basically over it now. He brought the crud home after meeting with some landscape developers in Jackson Hole, Wy who had it. Owen is sick with it too and I feel so bad for him. His little ears, nose and throat must really hurt because yesterday mine hurt pretty bad. Luckily he hasn't had an infection yet since he hasn't had a fever. Well, we can only get better now so that's a relief.

A Movin' and A Shakin'!

Oh boy, are we in trouble (giggle). I guess Owen woke up this morning and decided he was going to use his walker (as if he wasn't mobile enough) all by himself. It was a fun moment for Barry and me. Owen was pleased too.

Soon enough he'll get into things more quickly than he does now and he's been getting into EVERYTHING lately. Saturday he discovered he could pull out the DVDs when he wasn't the bit interested them before. They are now out of the TV stand into the closet. We've been shutting the bathroom, laundry, and pantry doors too. Sunday he started opening cabinets and drawers. Barry's job tomorrow is to put latches on them.

This said, I wouldn't trade my cute, little, smiley baby boy for anything!
